A Fantastic Week of Vet Nurse CPD in Cornwall: In-House CPR and Multiparameter Training Recap
This past week, VetriNurse CPD hit the road for an exciting and productive journey across Cornwall! Our mission? Delivering hands-on, in-house Vet Nurse CPD to some of the most skilled and passionate veterinary teams in the area. We had a fantastic time engaging with clinics, offering training in CPR and multiparameter monitoring, and connecting with wonderful veterinary professionals. Here’s a look back on the highlights of our Cornwall adventure!
Day One: CPR and Multiparameter Training at CVets Out-of-Hours (OOH) Clinic
Our first stop was the CVets OOH clinic, where we were warmly welcomed by an amazing team of experienced registered veterinary nurses (RVNs). This team works tirelessly around the clock, and they needed updated CPR training to stay at the top of their game. They’d recently invested in new multiparameter equipment, so we were thrilled to provide some in-depth, hands-on training to help them make the most of their new tools.
We started the session with a comprehensive presentation on the multiparameter monitor, covering setup, ECG interpretation, SPO2, blood pressure norms and abnormals, troubleshooting, and managing issues under anaesthesia. After the presentation, we moved into practical training where the team practiced ECG readings on one of the nurses’ lovely dogs. The hands-on experience was invaluable, allowing them to observe the QRS complex in real-time, which sparked great discussions on cases and techniques.
Of course, we didn’t stop there! Next, we dove into CPR training with a focus on advanced life support (ALS) and basic life support (BLS), along with compression and ventilation techniques. The practical session was a big hit, and our CasPeR CPR dog, ventilating dog, and competitive compression cube brought out the best in everyone! Their enthusiasm and eagerness to learn were inspiring—and they kept me energized with plenty of tea!
Day Two: CPR Training at Glebe Vets
The next stop was Glebe Vets, a charming clinic nestled in a beautiful village setting. The unique, barn-converted building was a dream location for delivering in-house CPR CPD. Orla, the Clinical Director, had shared with us that the team was handling more emergency cases recently and needed a CPR refresher to stay sharp.
The team at Glebe Vets was outstanding! They were engaged, asked insightful questions, and tackled the practical sessions with enthusiasm. It’s always a pleasure working with a team that’s as motivated to learn and improve their skills. Watching their excitement as they mastered techniques on CasPeR and practiced with our compression cube made the session both fun and incredibly rewarding.
Day Three: CPR CPD with Lamorna House Veterinary Centre
We wrapped up our Cornwall trip with a visit to Lamorna House Veterinary Centre. Katherine had reached out weeks before, expressing the team’s need for updated CPR training and hands-on practice. The turnout was fantastic, with RVNs, student veterinary nurses (SVNs), and vets all eager to participate.
The CPR training at Lamorna House was electric! The team dove into practical exercises with energy and focus, mastering techniques and even completing our CPR flash card challenge in record time. Their teamwork and camaraderie made the experience even more fulfilling, and it was wonderful to see their confidence grow throughout the session.
Looking Forward to More Vet Nurse CPD in Cornwall!
Reflecting on this week, I’m truly grateful to have met such knowledgeable, motivated, and welcoming teams. Every clinic welcomed us with open arms and made our time in Cornwall unforgettable. This in-house CPD journey was not only about delivering CPR and multiparameter training but also about learning from these remarkable veterinary professionals and sharing knowledge that could make a real difference in the critical moments they face daily.
A massive thank you to CVets, Glebe Vets, and Lamorna House Veterinary Centre for an incredible week. I’m already looking forward to the next chance to return and continue supporting the amazing veterinary teams in Cornwall!
